Old Fashion Apple Crumble Pie

We're now into the month of September and with that comes Fall, my favorite time of the year.  Thinking of the cool crisp weather that's to come, I felt in the mood to make my Old Fashion Apple Crumble Pie.

Let's dive in!

Here's what you'll need:

Ingredients

Crust
1 ½ c. flour
½ tsp. salt
½ c. butter
5 ½ T cold water
Topping
½ c. butter
½ c. brown sugar
1 c. flour
pinch of salt
Apple Filling
6 apples
½ c. sugar
½ tsb. cinnamon
2 T flour
Extra
1 T butter

Preheat the oven to 450
Directions
For the Crust

1.  Combine flour, salt, butter and 4 T cold water for crust (double the amount if you want to make a crust to cover your pie).

2.  Start mixing and slowly add the remaining water until the dough starts to come together.

3.  Shape into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and place in the refrigerator

For the Topping
1.  Combine brown sugar, flour, and salt in small bowl and mix together

2.  Add butter and mix, texture should be chunky

For the Apple Filling
1.  Combined sugar, cinnamon, and flour for filling.  Pour into gallon Ziploc bag

2.  Peel and slice apples

3.  Place apples in Ziploc bag and shake to coat apples

I find this easier than mixing in a bowl, but you can do that as well

To assemble pie
1.  Take pie crust out of the refrigerator and lightly flour a work surface

2.  Roll out the dough, making sure to flip and flour the dough as you work with it

3.  To place in pie pan, roll dough up on roller, than roll into pan.  This method is much easier than picking the crust straight up

4.  Take the extra 1 T butter and slice into tiny squares

5.  Place a few squares of butter on bottom of pie

6.  Layer Topping over the butter, then apples on top of the topping twice (make sense? you're going to layer in this order: Topping, apples, Topping, apples, and then Topping

7.  Fold over the edges of the crust. I prefer a rustic look, that is why I didn't cut the edges, but you can cut and crinkle the edges, or place another crust on top.  If you add an extra crust on top, I would suggest brushing some egg wash and sprinkling sugar on top of the crust.

8.  Add the remaining squares of butter on top of the pie, then place in the oven!

Bake for 18 minutes at 450, then decrease heat to 350 and bake for 20-30 additional minutes until golden brown and apples are tender when poked with fork

If only you could smell this, mmmm.....

Oops! Couldn't wait any longer
Got to have some tunes playing in the background
